Gear Review AMG Titanium Cookset Medium Size

This is another Titanium camping inventory added to our gears. So far the first impression was good, the quality was well built. I did order the Evernew Titanium DX3 which has a 1300ml pot, good enough for 2 person camping but soon realised the Evernew with non-stick coating cannot withstand extreme heat but I am glad the Japanese seller told me was out of stock.

AMG stands for Authentic Mountain Gear, they are specialized in making outdoor Titanium products for other company. The company is based in Inchon, South Korea. Now they have decided to market their own and this is just one of them. As for price, this is one of the cheapest Titanium product you can find in the market. All their products provided free shipping.

I highly recommend not to buy any non-stick pot expect for fry pan. All coated non-stick cookset cannot withstand high heat, their coating will eventually peel off.

Anyway this is my video below how I am going to Ultralight setup for 2 person. This setup will be used for hiking, bikepacking and overseas backpacking trips.
On their web there is English version just lookup at the right corner.

Fry pan or Lid: 400ml dia
Pot : 1250ml
Weight: 200gm.

Correction on my video price, I have paid USD34 but on their website is only USD30 at this time publishing.

DIY Edelrid Hexon Multifuel Stove With Vargo Titanium Hexagon Wood Stove

Before I purchased the Hexon Multifuel Stove, I did a lot of research and one of it was using with Vargo Hexagon Wood Stove. I have Noticed the nut of the Hexon Multifuel Stove size and the base plate of the Vargo Hexagon Wood Stove had the same size. It was a wild guess without physically seen it. There was no info on the internet that anyone has done it.

Took the gamble and guess what??!! I was right. This is a simple mod to use both stoves together. Takes less than a minute to get it done. Watch the video below

Edelrid Hexon Multifuel Stove Review

This stove is from a German Company who makes climbing gears. This is the first stove they released sometime back but the first generation had minor problem on the leg support due to high heat.

In 2014 they released the 2nd generation with some modification. The legs were tilted instead of right angle on the stove support section.

Choosing Camping Cookset

Outdoor Camping Cookset are very expensive depending on the construction and made. Many have made the wrong choice after a few field trips, most ended getting a Cookset too small or to large and heavy.
We never narrow our Camping Cookset just for Camping, we use it both for outdoor activities, home or traveling. Our choice of cookset have to very versatile, durable and light. Over the decades I have made some wrong choices but now we are clear on what we are getting into.

Before we select a cookset, we first have to identify how many people are we cooking for. Simply break down to these groups. Bigger group more than 5 person will not be discussed here as you probably need Kitchen Cookset.

  • Soloist (1 person)
  • Partner (2 person)
  • Family / Group (3 to 4 person)

Lake Toba, Samosir Island, Sumatra, Indonesia

21~26 June 2013
Lake Toba is the world biggest volcanic lake located in Sumatra, getting there can prove a challenge.
The people there are called Batak, previously head hunters who now mostly converted to Christians. Their culture are very unique especially the buffalo horn roof top and the food is simply fantastic.

Sangyang SYM SB300 Big Wolf 三陽 大野狼

Before I write my view on this local production bike, let me share with you my experience. It took me 3 years to get a full motorcycle license in Singapore, it's not I am a slow learner but we have a system. The first year bike license will be limited to 200cc, if no traffic offence after one year next level 400cc and a year later unlimited capacity.

I have been riding for decades from Super Sport Bike speeding at 260km/h till found love on Dual Sport Bike, Aprilla 650 Pegasus and  BMW650GS which brought me 3000km to Thailand and later downgraded to KTM200EXC.

I have not been riding a clutch bike for a decade, my current Yamaha BWS 125 Scooter all tune to Dual Sport have seen unfortunate event....Losing my buddy of 5.5 years who never fails to join me in any adventure. It was a knife in my heart.

Back to the topic, many locals felt this SB300 Big Wolf is overpriced. My view I have done my research, most parts are local manufactured including the Maxxis Tires. Comparing to Singapore bike price for a 250cc, which cost 1.5 times more. Big Wolf SB300 year 2016 which I paid was 192,000NT, that is less than SGD9000 including 3rd party insurance.

Reason I decided get it because the price is pretty decent from where I am from and local imported bikes are 80 percent over price due to taxes. Another factor was parts availability. More importantly, I can ride like in Singapore or South East Asia and join in the car lanes. I am not interested in getting a Red Plate bike that is 550cc and above because Taiwan road have little option to full throttle. Age have caught up so it time to slow down. Yeah Taiwan has a wired Biking system....!!

Overall the SB300 felt very comfortable to ride, the suspension both front and back was well tuned for my weight 60kg. The seat height is just right for my partner who is only 164cm tall. Personally anyone above 175cm hight might feel the bike is too low.

The gearing ratio 15 front and 42 rear was perfect for street riding, it can easily hit 100km/h in 3rd gear. Maker claimed the bike top speed is 147km/h but yet to try it.

There is not many complain about this bike except the color combination was a little odd. I have the Matt Black version but the front and rear fenders are both gloss, there is chrome here and there which I felt was a total miss matched, the handlebar came in silver.....DUH!!

Anyway enjoy my first initial review on this bike. Stay tune as I will revamp this bike to a Camping Tourer Scrambler and add on luggage system from my Bicycle Panniers all with minimum cost.

PS I will provide more technical specification on the bike after I set her up

Price: $600 for a campground, Uphill 14 spaces (not our fav), downhill 18 Spaces where we camped. Guesthouse starts $2500 from 3 to 7 occupancy

Over the years I have camped many spots, this place was my planned camping area 3 years ago until now I have finally fulfilled it. I will rated this as my top 10 camp area, which ran by an aboriginal family. The son BIG HEAD really loves music by still takes order from the mother.

From my understanding this camp site has been in operation for the last 10 years and we can still see today they are improving the camp area. The whole area is well kept and maintained, water supply to the area can be limited during dry season.

The last time in Maolin was 2009, 88 Typhoon Disaster helping to give the local supplies
