Features: River camping, trail to YuanYang Waterfall
Located beside the river Da Hou (大後溪), this place is currently run by a 67 years old aborigianal elderly lady who looks like she is in her 50s. People address her as Yang Ma Ma. According to her, she has been running this place for the last 27 years. Her selling point here is mainly Karaoke and meals. She breeds her own chicken and grows her own vegetables.

Around the area you can take a 45min hike to Yuan Yang Waterfall

  1. Hi, I tried visit this campsite last weekend (2011-09-09). I was unable to locate this campsite; Maybe my ability to follow a map should be open to question, so take it where it comes from... but i can definately assure you that this area has been seriously affected by typhoons. The bridge closest to that campsite (which my gps told me to drive over since we were coming from the north over the adjacent mountain) is not there anymore, you may have to detour over another bridge a few km down the road. if you go more directly from town this will not affect you.

Furthermore, one of the mountain side roads has been wiped off the map. Someone has built a makeshift steel bridge just large enough for a medium sized scooter to drive over.

I drove around for a while but could not locate the camp (if it is still there) - So I talked to some locals who showed me another small farm residence where I could pitch tent for the night. I paid that guy 100$ which got me electricity, a cold shower, some stoves to cook on (although i didn't use them) and a karaoke machine (which also went unused).

Most of the people I met in this area could not speak English so go prepared. My Chinese has a lot of room for improvement but I did understand when the locals told me that the landscape has changed somewhat in the last year due to the typhoons.

I still had a good time in that area - just go prepared :)
